Antony Price, Famed for Styling Iconic Acts Like Bowie and Duran Duran, Dies at 80.
Antony Price, the influential UK-based designer who crafted some of the most iconic looks associated with artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.
He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, most notably the soft-colored suits that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance online."
Price's death comes shortly after he presented his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by Princess Diana.
A Pioneering Career
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he began designing menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.
Partnerships with Stars
A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His signature ability to merge tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.
By the 1990s, he started creating pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included several ensembles for her US tour after assuming the title.
After a career spanning over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

The fashion world laments the passing to a true visionary whose legacy on style and culture remains deeply ingrained.
