Citizens have gathered throughout the country to remember the second anniversary since the Hamas-initiated assault on 7 October 2023, as negotiations proceeded in the neighboring country over a resolution to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

The attack resulted in over 1,200 people dead and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as captives. It was the most deadliest day for the Jewish community since the Second World War.

Israel responded by initiating a armed campaign in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, according to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry. Its numbers are seen as reliable by the UN and other global organizations.

"The bloodthirsty adversaries have struck forcefully, but they have not broken us," the leader stated on that day.

He also vowed to "realize all the aims of the war: the release of all the abducted, the removal of the Hamas government and the assurance that Gaza will never again create a threat to Israel".

Memorial Ceremonies Across Israel

The Israeli government delayed official remembrance events until 16 October - after the completion of the festive season - but events still were held across the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the loved ones of people who died in the Hamas incident was held in Tel Aviv. Put together by the affected families, it was televised on Israeli TV networks.

Some time earlier, a silent tribute was respected across the country.

Ceasefire Discussions in Egypt

Simultaneously, Israeli and Hamas delegations convened in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of the Egyptian city for a second day of mediated discussions to review the provisions of the proposal.

A senior representative familiar with the negotiations said that an evening round of indirect talks started at evening in Egypt.

The representative explained the day's discussions ended without significant progress, amid differences over the suggested Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over assurances Hamas demands to guarantee Israel does not restart combat after the first phase of the agreement.

He added that the negotiations are "difficult and have not yet produce any major advancement," but mentioned that intermediaries are making efforts to close the disparities between the both parties.

Key Points in Talks

  • A lasting halt to fighting
  • The exchange of the prisoners still kept by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Arrangements for relief supplies distribution
  • Post-war administration of the region

Citizen Feeling

In Tel Aviv's memorial area previously, young Hagar - whose family member lived through the assault on the outdoor event, where 378 people were lost their lives and numerous more were captured by Hamas gunmen - told: "Nowhere feels like home now and until each abducted person come back no one will have peace of mind."

"Once we see all home returned, we can relax anew. Then we can begin to heal," she added.

Outside the leader's home in the capital, people assembled to show their backing for the families of the abducted. Israel reports forty-eight stay in confinement in Gaza, twenty of whom are believed to be surviving.

Protester Atalia Regev explained: "We must do any agreement required for the abducted to be released. But we sincerely need assurances that we will be protected."

Research now consistently show that about seventy percent of Israeli citizens prefer the war to conclude in return for the release of the captives.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the area of the music event, mourners gathered to remember the victims.

From that location, the noise of aerial bombardments and artillery could be detected just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where observers said the severe Israeli bombardment persisted.

In the urban center, attacks were noted in the early hours of that day in the western neighborhood, Rimal and Nasr neighbourhoods and in the eastern neighbourhood of the community, as well the settlement to the northwestern area.

"When the night comes, the dread comes with it," relocated Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose 17-year-old son was killed by an Israeli aerial attack previously, explained.

"We are afraid of the attacks. Throughout the evening we are resting together, embracing, especially my youngest child who puts his head on me the entire evening."

"Constantly we look at the reports to see developments. And I'm afraid that this truce will not be achieved and that the conflict will return to us."

Medical Emergency

The healthcare center in the urban area announced it had accepted the bodies of half dozen people by the daytime, including three who died in an Israeli bombing in the south part area.

Nasser hospital in the south region of that area reported two more fatalities had been brought there. An individual was killed by Israeli forces while attempting to get help to the south, medical staff reported.

The region's health ministry announced 25 of the {territ
