Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the points lead from his teammate by just one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in 17th position as his team followed a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, though minor, when he lost control at Turn Four during the early running.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before rotating through the gravel trap, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn leading to the final bend on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in P19, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, 0.619secs off Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
