The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to open the holiday season,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, diverse, and based in heritage that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
